Diversity

The UC Davis Department of Philosophy takes pride in the diversity of its faculty, staff, graduate students, and undergraduates, and we are committed to strengthening our status as a leader in this respect. We are first among all UC philosophy departments in percentage of faculty who are women (46%), as of Spring Quarter 2021. Our approximately thirty five graduate students hail from eight countries and three continents. Our department hosts an active chapter of MAP (Minorities And Philosophy); we participate in AMIGA (Alliance for Multi-campus, Inclusive Graduate Admissions); and we are strongly committed to the value of racial, ethnic, and socio-economic diversity within the department and within academia as a whole. We believe that diversity along these and other dimensions, including age, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, nation of origin, disability, and life experience, contributes in important ways to intellectual diversity, which is one of the driving engines of philosophical inquiry. In this spirit, we strive to cultivate a supportive, welcoming, and inclusive environment for all.
